SPANISH LIFESTYLE

There is no doubt that when contemplating investing in Spain being well informed about the rules and traditions of the country will guard against having a bad experience. It is for this reason we created our Information on Spain Page. Here we provide information on many subjects which we feel should be of interest to anyone planning on moving to Spain either to live permanently or for extended periods of several months a year.

  • The Costa Blanca has a spectacular mix of wonderful contrasting coastline and stunning mountain ranges.
  • The Climate of the Costa Blanca is excellent  and the sun shines for an average of 322 days a year. In  winter, the temperatures can be very comfortable and sunbathing on Xmas Day and New Year barbeques are commonplace.
  • Amenities  on the Costa Blanca offers the tourist or resident everything they could wish for from a holiday destination or to put down new and permanent roots. There are many gorgeous beaches dotted along the coastline, championship standard golf courses, water and leisure parks. Shopping is top quality  in many of the large towns and in the city of Alicante. Medical facilities are world class.
  • The Cost of Living is much more reasonable than in other European countries. In the region of 60% of the UK.
  • Spanish Culture is unchanged inland. In coastal holiday towns, an international flavour may be apparent – small hamlets retain their old Spain charm.
Fiestas and festivals occur all year round along the Costa Blanca and throughout Spain. Spaniards love to party! Moors and Christians Fiestas take place at different times of the year in different towns. There is also the Fallas fiesta in March – In the Valencia region, monumental statues are ceremoniously put to flames. The largest Fallas takes place in Valencia city and is an unbelievable sight.

It also has excellent leisure and sporting facilities.
The following are just a small selection of the activities you can participate in, up and down the Costa Blanca coastline:

  • Fishing – this is a very popular pastime in Spain and is open to anyone with a licence, which is easy to obtain. River and Marina fishing are both available in this part of Spain.
  • Water-sports – you will find excellent water-sports facilities all along the coastline. You can scuba dive, windsurf, sail, kite surf, jetski, canoe, water-ski, paraglide…whether you are a beginner or expert. Due to the excellent climate all year round and amazing coastline, most coastal towns on the Costa Blanca offer water-sports. This is also an excellent way to make friends with like-minded people.
  • Tennis – outdoor tennis courts are a much more common sight in Spain than in the UK, due to the excellent climate. This is a very popular sport in Spain which is evident from the number of world-class Spanish tennis players now coming up the ranks at the major tournaments. Most courts will also have a tennis coach in attendance who can teach you how to play or to improve your tennis skills.
  • Golf – there are many top-class golf courses on the Costa Blanca. The climate all year round on the Costa Blanca makes it an excellent place to enjoy playing golf. Speak to us for advice and options.
  • Bowls – the popularity of bowling is very high in the UK and equally so in Spain. There are many bowling clubs on the Costa Blanca and most welcome new members. This is another excellent way of meeting people when moving to a new country, especially if you are an existing bowls player. Our local club La Marina is one for the region´s finest clubs.
  • Walking, Cycling & Horseriding – are all extremely popular pursuits on the Costa Blanca and can serve as an ideal way to discover a different Spain than the one most people imagine. Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe and has some of the most stunning countryside and views you are ever likely to see.
Again, there are many walking and cycling clubs on the Costa Blanca.
  • Football - the national sport of Spain! You will normally find football pitches in most Spanish towns and there may also be ex-pat football teams on the lookout for members.
  • Eating-out – always a popular leisure activity! Most Costa Blanca towns have an excellent array of Spanish and International restaurants, and you will find that it is normally a lot cheaper to eat out in Spain than it is in the UK.
Many people moving to Spain tend to eat out several times a week as it can be more cost effective dining in a restaurant than cooking a meal at home.
  • Cinemas – unsurprisingly Spanish cinemas cater mainly for Spanish-speakers. However, due to the increase in the number of British ex-pats on the Costa Blanca some cinemas do show English language films once a week.
Films being shown in English are normally advertised in the local newspapers.
  • Live Entertainment – in recent years, the number of international pop acts performing on the Costa Blanca has increased greatly. The best places for pop concerts tend to be Benidorm, Alicante and Torrevieja. Although, you will find many talented performers in small local towns, too!
Shakira and R.E.M. performed in Torrevieja in 2008,
The local newspapers are definitely an excellent first point of reference for information on clubs, sporting activities and various leisure pursuits. The Costa Blanca News, CoastRider, Round Town News and the Leader have dedicated sections for 'What’s On' in the local area.
The Costa Blanca is definitely a lifestyle worth experiencing whether you visit for a holiday or decide to make a more permanent move.
